The Iraq war was affecting my emotional outlook in the spring of 2004. It was also impacting my art. My long interest in zen and flow of nature had been re-energized after recently reading an alan watts book. Against the straight forward genius of watts writing, the war seemed completely senseless. Fueled by human greed and religious intoxication the bi-polar zealotry of all the perpetrators when cast against infinite time and flow of nature, glared brutal ignorance. I quickly painted a greenish monochromatic landscape image and felt the piece was done, but that eveningIhad a very vivid, seemingly repetitous dream whereinIadded a textured complimentary colored image to the right third of the piece. I woke up, couldnŐt wait to get into my studio and painted the textured complimentary in fashion of the dream.
